Initially I was rather skeptical about Phuket. There are too many tourists, irritating and insistent salesman and the humid air is pressing. But, the tide has changed, because we have found Laem Singh Beach. ‘The most beautiful beach of Phuket’, according to the Lonely Planet Guide. Well, as far as I can tell, they’re right. It is indeed ‘absurdly beautiful’ (see photographs below). It is an elusive piece of paradise, although still slightly spoiled by tourism.
Laem Singh Beach is a 10 minute scooter ride (see photograph above) from our hostel. The ride itself is quite impressive as well. In order to get there we have to zigzag through hills covered with palm trees and other tropical vegetation. Coming from the ‘polder’ and being used to the ‘Lemelerberg’, these views are for me quite extraordinary.
